I am a real Dad now

Monday, August 30th, 2010

I heard you.

I heard you all sniggering behind my back and saying –

“He thinks he’s a real Dad, just ‘cos he’s fathered a daughter. But he’s not.”

Inside I knew.

I knew it wasn’t right to call myself a Dad.

Well now I can.

I built this shed yesterday. With my own tools.

I am a REAL DAD NOW.

Page’s first party

Saturday, August 28th, 2010

Netflix put on a family picnic at Saratoga Springs. Page made her debut, and we took Carson along too.

Coming home, baby’s coming home

Thursday, August 26th, 2010

Mid yesterday morning I picked up Alex and Page from the hospital. It was the first time that I had used a car seat. It took a little adjustment, and we had our little one all safe and secure. It was very fulfilling to have my family at home.

After we three had a nap in our bed, we all went for a very slow walk around the block to slowly introduce Page to the world.

Oh, hi!

Page Gibson is here! For us American folk, she weighs 7 lbs. 8 oz. and is 20 inches long. No, she is not named after Jimmy’s guitar, but after Brendan’s Grandma Winifred Page. (Although thanks to Anne-Britt she does share the same birthday as Keith Moon.) Despite coming from a family of 11, Grandma was the last of the Page’s. When Brendan and I first found out I was pregnant,  that was the name we immediately agreed upon.

Yesterday was a whirlwind. It went by so fast. I labored from noon – 2 AM and pushed for an hour when she was born at 3:07. It was 10 times easier than I thought it would be. I did have the help of an epidural, but I was still amazed by how smooth everything went. The last hour was extremely painful and looking back its like an out of body experience. Page came out as perfect as I could have imagined, healthy, soft, alert, beautiful.

Ok, so sleepy. More later…

41 week bump

Last week????

Photos never lie. Alex is loving this…

Christmas in August?

Saturday, August 7th, 2010

Yesterday felt a bit like Christmas, Nonna Sam and Tia Carson arrived finally and brought tons of pressies for the little munchkin. Score!

I have been feeling just ok. Contractions have started, but not enough of a pattern yet. Doc thinks tomorrow but something tells me next week. Who knows. My waddle is redonkulous.

Brendan installed the car seat today.

I find immense warmth as Brendan creeps along beside me at a snails pace, stopping with me patiently when a contraction kicks in. He doesn’t need a #1 Dad t-shirt, you can tell in his eyes and in his voice that he will be amazing.

Little P’s room is ready!

Friday, July 30th, 2010

I think I just had a crazy nesting fix. Maybe that means she is coming soon!? We have most of her room put together, we are just waiting on some art pieces and an armoire and we should be all set.

We are a little nervous to put anything above her bed in case of an earthquake, we had one in the area just last week.
I can just picture her smilin’ sweetly at us in the mornings, or crying…

Probably the only time I will ever think diapers are cute. Eek! They are so tiny!! We decided on a diaper service but these will do for the first few days. She’ll go through 12 a day?? Oy vey…

38 week bump and our last weekend alone evah

Tuesday, July 27th, 2010

Brendan and I were chillin’ at home on the couch last Thursday night when we realized that we had just one more weekend left alone, just the two of us. My Mom and little sister are coming this weekend from Mexico to spend the month of August in San Francisco. And Baby P will show up shortly after they arrive… It was this realization that brought on a slight panic attack and closing of the throat and the decision that we needed get out of town for a night.

We drove north on Highway 1, snaking through Marin County and up onto the Sonoma Coast. As soon as we hit the top of Marin County, we hit fog. Apparently July and August are the worst months to visit the coast. Then we ventured down into the coastal towns of Stinson Beach, Point Reyes and our final destination of Bodega Bay. Bodega Bay was the sleepy little coastal town where Alfred Hitchcock shot The Birds. It had a bit of a creepy feel to it but I quickly forgot once I settled into my massage pressie from Brendan. Ahhhhhhh… You have no idea how badly I needed that and it was the best massage evah.

The old saying “The coldest winter I ever spent was the summer in San Francisco” proved true. Our idea of a dinner picnic on the beach to watch the sunset turned into a seafood dinner in and a cozy night curled up next to the fire in our room watching Sideways, which we thought they must have on constant repeat due to the fact we were in the heart of wine country. Slightly boring and cliche? Yes, but a welcome distraction from the panic attack rising up in my throat.

Sunday we took our time in the morning. Brendan ate enough breakfast for four people as usual and we ventured off to find the picture perfect beach I had seen on the internets. My masseuse recommended Shell Snake Beach. Really? Well, we took some silly pictures and had some laughs and then Brendan got hungry again and we went to find one of the Oyster shacks we had seen on the way up. Yum! Fresh raw and BBQ oysters, crab sandwich, clam chowder and a special appearance by Steve Zissou. Oh, the many hipsters you will find in and around San Francisco. With our bellies full we hopped back into the car and back into sunny Palo Alto. The next time we venture out there will be three of us. Crazy. And I cannot wait.

Soon to be Superstar
