Announcing a new addition!

Thursday, September 20th, 2012

Baby #2 will arrive in late April (or so they say – my vote is for May  7th, Brendan’s is for May 12th). This is definitely a different baby. See the heartbeat here. Page was so mellow during pregnancy and this one is throwing me for a loop. Page is very excited about the baby in Mommy’s belly and likes to talk about the baby in her belly, too. One more week until the Festival I am hoping adrenaline carries me through the long weekend. The Festival is going so well, much less stress than last year. I am REALLY looking forward to the weekend after Festival when Brendan, Page and I will head up to Calistoga for a relaxing spa weekend.

PAIFF Program Announcement Kick-off Party

Tuesday, August 14th, 2012

Brendan and I had a rare night away from Page and were whisked away to the Stonebrook Castle for the PAIFF Kick-off Party. We were fortunate enough to have Brendan’s mate from school, Sebastian, visiting us so he was designated Brendan’s wing-man while I schmoozed with the attendees. It was a huge success, over 300 VIP’s in attendance. I felt like Cinderella for the night as I was loaned some gorgeous diamond earrings from our jewelry sponsor.

You can download a video of me premiering the Festival Trailer that Brendan and I worked on – it was so cool to see it on the big screen! The video is 313 MB so it will take awhile to download… https://www.cx.com/mycx/share/Fc-qMuV5EeG47RICPRQ27A/IMG_0859.MOV

One of our Sponsors also sent me this video from a moment in our Program Announcement where I had to plug their amazing application they developed for the Festival. http://dl.dropbox.com/u/367972/PAIFFLaunchParty/KaazingAtPaiff.m4v

My favorite are these:

Me w/ 2 filmmakers, Betsy Franco and Kristin Kueter. Betsy is the mom of actors Dave and James Franco.

What a good looking crew! Sebastian, our recent newlywed friends, Erik and Lindsey Toth. Brendan and Erik met at Netflix, we try to hang out with these 2 as much as possible.

The boys around the Bugatti, this is what a $2 million car looks like. Wow!

Now its all about spending time w/ Grandma Sam and Carson up in San Francisco for the rest of the week and getting ready for a certain someone’s 2nd birthday!!!!

Page’s first day at Camp!

Tuesday, July 17th, 2012

Tata went on a vacation back to Ukraine to see her family so we had to look for alternative care for Page. Since Page will be starting pre-school at Little Oak Pre-school at the end of August, we were happy to find out they also had summer camp available. Page is in the Goldfish Room. Here is she checking out all the kids that were coming down the hall…

The school is huge and has a wonderful playground for the kids to play. Page especially liked recess where she was able to play with her BFF Nicholas who was in another class. They also got to play in the jumpy castle!

This is her room – we weren’t sure how she would be after we left. We heard her whimper a bit but as we peaked in the window to see if she was ok, she quickly stopped. When Brendan picked her up the teacher said she wished Page were in her class everyday. And she was especially surprised that she can count to 10! 2 more days of camp and then Brendan and I have to switch off days caring for Page. Tata comes back in early August – we hope she is having fun back in her homeland! We miss you Tata!

Relajado

Brendan bought me the best pressie ever. A hammock for us to relax and enjoy the peacefulness of the canyon. Its such a treat to steal a few moments away… The craziness of our lives has been taking up most of our time (when we aren’t enjoying all that is Page). We are shooting a short film as our PAIFF Festival Trailer – a few French artists are flying in to help us produce. Brendan has been hired on and I cannot wait to share the final product, the concept is brilliant. As PAIFF gets closer I wish for more hours in the day. But its the moments in the hammock with my sweet little monkey that make it all worth it!

PAIFF Film Series Kick-off a success!

Friday, March 30th, 2012

We launched a film series for PAIFF where we will showcase one film a month leading up to the Festival. We chose INDIE GAME: THE MOVIE for our first event, it is a wonderful doc about indie gamers struggling to get to the top of the gaming world. The event was awesome, a sold out, enthusiastic crowd.

Before the film started, a father and his son arrived. The father had only one ticket and approached Brendan to see if he had an extra ticket, luckily Brendan was able to point out there was someone near by who was trying to sell their extra ticket. During the Q&A w/ the filmmakers, the boy got up and asked a question, he was SO excited to be there and to be able to speak with the filmmakers and the subject (hero) of the film. Its moments like that that make me very happy.

Strava Classic Climbing Challenge

Thursday, March 29th, 2012

Strava is a San Francisco startup that has produced an app that allows you to track your bike rides (and runs) and compare yourself against other local riders, and yourself. I can race up a certain hill on my ride, Strava records my time, and when I look at the app, I can see if I’ve got the fastest (or 124th fastest …).

Strava regularly posts challenges. The current challenge, and the subject of this blog, has been their Classic Climbing Challenge. The Challenge is to ride the total vertical distance of the Spring Classics (Paris-Roubaix et al) times three. That means 32,100 metres of going up! In 47 days.

I completed the challenge this morning. Fifteen days after the start.

It wasn’t easy.

To complete the challenge I had to change my commute from a leisurely ride up the Los Gatos Creek Trail:

To a testing ride up Black Road and over the Saratoga Gap:

Doing this meant that I have been leaving home in the dark, and arriving home just before Page’s bedtime. All Page has known of me for the last two weeks has been “Dadda”, “Helmet”, “Bike”, “Work”, “Yight”. But both she and Alex have been a fantastic support crew. Alex has been cooking for me and buying me sugary treats. Last night, Alex and Page met me at Mount McPherson, the highest point of my ride, and drove behind me so that I could see. And then they drove me back down the hill. Going downhill gets no points from Strava, so I didn’t want to waste the effort, and besides, I couldn’t see …

To be honest, the physicality of the challenge has not been the hardest bit. The mental game of getting out of bed early and thinking about riding up a 10% grade, and doing that every single day was tough. Particularly with our late winter here. The first two days of my commute were very wet. Then my first Saturday ride was cut short because of snow. Then I got hail and snow on the Sunday … it rarely got better.

At least today was dry, and I completed the challenge by racing up Mt Pierce and passing another bemused cyclist on the way to work this morning.

Somehow I got competitive with this challenge. I had originally just aimed to complete it, but after the first couple of days I was in the top 100, so I just kept the scoreboard ticking over, and pegged my way up towards the top. I was able to get into 5th place at one stage, battling a couple of Utards. Unfortunately last night a Melbourne rider passed me to push me down to 6th. I know that I can’t complain about my weather more than his, so good luck to him.

I’m glad I did this challenge. The ride to work over Saratoga Gap is beautiful, with views over Monterey Bay, and either snow on the Redwoods, or occasionally sun streaming through them. Now it’s Alex’s turn!

(Amazingly, I got no flat tyres, and only one broken spoke slowed me down.)

PAIFF Update

Friday, February 17th, 2012

Hi Friends & Family!

I am overjoyed by the recent successes of PAIFF. Everyday has seemed like Xmas with all the support from the Palo Alto and film community. Here are a couple highlights:

– We are in talks with Ford who will be ‘owning’ the Festival. They are opening a research center in Palo Alto, its a perfect fit and will bring us in OVER our fundraising goals. YES!
– We have a very dynamic Talk program where we will host 10 conversations between Hollywood celebrities and Silicon Valley tech professionals. Variety, The New York Times Talks, and Fast Company are all signing on a media partners. HUGE win for us! I can’t wait to share the lineup…
– And the best news of all is that we are blessed to have the support of a company called Palantir, they are a Palo Alto company worth loads of money and help the gov’t fight terrorism (or something like that). They have given us the biggest gift all by converting the Varsity Theater BACK into a theater for us to use!!!!!!!!!!! The Varsity was converted into a Borders bookstore in the early 90’s. It is now being restored into a state of the art theater. We will be able to use all year long for our film series, etc. But it will be ready this summer and will be our main PAIFF venue.

Lots more updates to come and I will keep you posted. But today I get to hang with my sweet little girl, time to head to the library for story time!

Sundance Baby

Tuesday, February 7th, 2012

We had an awesome long weekend in Park City. Brendan was superDad again and watched Page while I did the Sundance thing. It was a VERY beneficial trip – some huge connections were made and fingers crossed that PAIFF may be in a VERY good position soon, hope to have more news on that soon…

We were lucky to spend the trip with Missy and Mike at their beautiful home in Jeremy Ranch. It was kid heaven! Page loved the snow and her new friends Ewan, Neala, Finn and Brady. I have never seen her so excited. And of course, she donned her Sundance hat and scarf…
